An important even which happened during summer vacation.
Since I’ve had a very long vacation, 2 and a half years, I cannot really write about what happened during my summer vacation. Suffice it to say, there was NO summer vacation for me. So, I am rather writing the most important event happened to me while I was away from the university.
When I was in the Korean army, I happened to realise how important the ability of speaking English was. Then I decided to learn it. How? And where? I went to Ireland. And going to Ireland was the most important event happened to me. Well, technically, it’s not like “This happened to me.”. It’s more like “I did it.” though.
Anyway, the reason I put this event in the very first on my important event list is that being able to speak English and having been to somewhere far from Korea changed the life style of mine and gave me the second will to graduate from university. I had been a student who had never studied, who had loved drinking, who had not at all been willing to learn anything before I went to Ireland. But the experiences in Ireland, such as learning a language which was completely new to me, having trouble with money, getting a job, an attempt to settle down in a foreign country woke me up again and opened my eyes which made me want to learn more and more.
This is what happened during my long vacation and this is why I am here to learn. And I take it as a gift from the longest journey of my life.
